Tourist arrivals in the first two months of 95,3 plunged by 2021%, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, according to the Statistical Service.
Specifically, for the period January - February 2021, tourist arrivals amounted to 8.936, compared to 191.214 in the corresponding period of 2020, recording a decrease of 95,3%, as well as a decrease of 95,2% compared to the period January - February 2019 .
Moreover, in February 2021, tourist arrivals amounted to 5.047, showing a decrease of 95,2% compared to February 2020 (during which 105.592 arrivals were recorded), as well as a decrease of 95,2% compared to February 2019 (with 105.571 arrivals).
Arrivals from Greece, according to the Statistical Service, were the main source of tourism for February 2021, as they accounted for 44,6% of total arrivals, while arrivals from Germany 8,7% and arrivals from Russia 8,2%.
Compared to February 2020, arrivals from Greece decreased by 77,6%, arrivals from Germany decreased by 91,3% and arrivals from Russia decreased by 94,8%.
Moreover, according to the Statistical Service, the purpose of travel in February 2021 was for 11,6% of tourists vacations, for 35,2% the visit to friends or relatives and for 53,2% business.
Respectively, for February 2020, 60,7% visited Cyprus for holidays, 21,4% for visiting friends or relatives and 17,8% for business reasons.
