The Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, in view of the sales period, advises consumers to follow the simple tips below:

  • Be extra careful when buying products at a discount price and gather basic information before making a transaction decision.
  • It is very important for them to know that stores can run sales throughout the year and therefore there is no reason to buy under pressure.
  • They have enough time to do market research and compare prices and quality before deciding which option is the best for them.
  • During sales periods, stores are required by law to display on the products for sale both the previous sale price and the current sale price or the fraction/percentage reduction of the immediately previous price, so that consumers can easily compare prices.
  • It is up to each store's policy whether they accept returns. During sales periods, some stores post signs stating that no changes are made. That's why it would be good, before they buy, to ask for information about the store's return policy.
  • Always ask for proof of purchase because, in the event that the product proves to be defective, proof is required for the warranty.

Finally, the YPK wishes to inform that it carries out round-the-clock checks regarding the discounts offered in stores. Store managers should be able to prove, in the event of an audit, that the old sales price shown on the sign corresponds to reality.
