A monetary amount of 40 thousand dollars was obtained, by trick, by an unknown man, from a currency exchange located in the Germasogeia area, in Limassol.
According to the TAE Limassol, as reported by a 54-year-old man, the unknown man, whom he recently served again for smaller amounts, asked by phone to exchange euros for 40 thousand US dollars.
At noon on Wednesday, the unidentified man visited the currency exchange, where the complainant handed him $40 in $100 bills. After counting them, he placed them in envelopes and then in a purse, which he left on the exchange counter, telling the 54-year-old that he would return with the corresponding amount of 36,800 euros.
However, the stranger never returned, so the 54-year-old opened the wallet, only to find that there were only two envelopes containing US$409, in bundles of one and five dollars, and that he had been tricked by the stranger, who allegedly switched the envelopes. with the 40 thousand dollars, without being noticed.
The purse and its contents were received as evidence by the Police, who are investigating a case of theft by deception, while closed circuits and other witness material are being examined that may lead to the identification of the unknown man, who is described as being of Russian or Ukrainian origin, around 60 years old .
