"Demolition" of pirate channels: 64.000 subscribers are directly affected

Yesterday, which was conducted simultaneously in four countries, including Cyprus, is characterized as one of the largest pan-European operations of Europol.

Three people from Larnaca and Limassol were arrested in connection with the case, during a nationwide Cypriot police campaign. Information indicates that the Police has conducted nine investigations throughout Cyprus.

A similar operation was carried out in 2014, where two people were arrested. Searches were then carried out on the premises of subscribers of the illegal subscription. At that time, a total of about 4 thousand subscribers were affected.

The current report records a total, in the first phase, of about 64 thousand subscribers who are affected, in all the countries where the campaign took place. More specifically, according to information, these subscribers receive a signal from a server located in the Netherlands.

The following charges are being investigated against the accused:

- Illegal signal sharing of subscription channels
- Illegal provision of central server servers that illegally share a subscription TV channel signal
- Conspiracy to commit a crime, illegal interference with computer system data
- Offenses in breach of the law on the prevention and control of proceeds of illicit activities, and
- Illegal creation of a personal data file without notification to the Personal Data Registrar.
