The Ministry of Interior is ready from the first day of the establishment of the new Parliament to return to an effort to implement the reform of Local Government, Nikos Nouris said on Friday.

In statements to Sotira and when asked about the issue of local government reform, the Minister of Interior replied that "first there must be a consideration with the parliamentary parties, I had said before the completion of the work of Parliament, that in the Parliament would not proceed at least with the holding of the referendum, things will become extremely difficult ".

We must, he continued, "be realistic in politics, we have before us the upcoming Community and Municipal elections in December. We need to see what the attitude of the parliamentary parties is towards reform. The Ministry of Interior declares its readiness from the first day of the establishment of the new Parliament to return to the Parliament in an effort to implement the reform ".

He reiterated that "the parliamentary parties should also state their position directly, if they are ready to proceed with something similar, because I believe that the period of discussions is over. "We all know what we are talking about, everyone has studied for years now, including the social partners."

At the same time, he said that "if the parliamentary parties do not want to listen to the Government, let them listen to the Union of Municipalities, the Union of Communities, let them listen to the citizens themselves who urgently demand reform in order to have better services at the lowest possible cost."

Asked whether he hopes that there is time for the approval of the reform bill and the postponement of the Municipal and Community elections, the Minister expressed the assessment that "it is premature at the moment to make similar forecasts. I repeat that we are ready from the first day to enter into discussions, substantive discussions, with a specific goal of reform ".
