The Cyprus Police has initiated a criminal investigation into the procedures followed in a Forestry Department Competition for aerial firefighting vehicles, based on the findings of an administrative investigation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced.
In a statement, the competent Ministry states that the administrative investigation, which was carried out under the instructions of Minister Maria Panayiotou, following a written complaint received, covered all contracts (leases, maintenance, etc.) from 2017 onwards, in order to reveal actions, acts or omissions that may result in disciplinary offenses or even criminal offenses.
It notes that the administrative investigation report was submitted on December 6, 2024 to the Minister, who forwarded it to the Legal Service of the Republic.
Following an evaluation of the data, the investigating officer's findings were forwarded to the Police for further investigation.
The Ministry finally assures that the Republic of Cyprus' procedures for the flight program are continuing smoothly.
