Paphos Police are investigating five cases involving driving under the influence of drugs.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos, Michalis Ioannou, in one case on 20.2.22 at 20:45 a vehicle was stopped, which was driven by a 22-year-old resident of Paphos and in a preliminary examination he was found to be positive.
A physical search of the driver and his vehicle was also carried out without finding anything reprehensible. An additional sample was taken and is expected to be sent for laboratory tests to the General State Chemist.
In another case, said Mr. Ioannou, yesterday around 22:00 another car was stopped which was driven by a 45-year-old resident of a village in Paphos District. In a preliminary drug test, it is said that he tested positive, while a second sample was taken, which will be sent for scientific examinations.
Also in another case at 18:30 on Saturday, a third vehicle was stopped, which was driven by a 49-year-old permanent resident of Paphos. A preliminary drug test was positive, while it was found that the 49-year-old was driving his vehicle without safety and that the registration of the vehicle was canceled as a result of the expiration of the registration permit. The 49-year-old was requested and gave a second sample to be sent to the General State Chemist for further investigation of the case.
Even around midnight on Saturday, a vehicle stopped on Nikolaou Ellina Street in Paphos. The vehicle was driven by a 25-year-old permanent resident of Paphos, while in a preliminary examination of drugs it is also said that he was found positive. He then gave a second sample to be sent for laboratory analysis to the General State Chemist. In addition, it was found that he violated traffic lights and the lights of his vehicle were defective. The 25-year-old driver was then reported by the Paphos Traffic Police.
Moreover, on 18.2.22 at 21:00, a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old permanent resident of Paphos was stopped for inspection, which was found to be positive in a preliminary drug test. He then gave a second sample which will be sent to the General State Chemist for examinations. A search of her vehicle did not reveal anything illegal.
