The 22-year-old suspect, who was arrested yesterday by the Police as part of an investigation into the attempted murder of a 47-year-old businessman last July in Larnaca, was placed in eight-day detention.
The suspect's lawyer did not object to the Police's request to take him into custody.
The Police are investigating six offenses against the suspect: attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony for the offense of theft or receiving stolen goods, illegal possession and transportation of a firearm and explosives.
A search of the suspect's home revealed a loaded 9mm pistol.
Information received in mid-October indicated that the suspect told a third person that he had committed the attempted murder.
The suspect, based on the information so far, appears to have been following the 47-year-old recently and sometimes changed the means he was using. On the day of the attempted murder, he had requested leave from work.
During the perpetrator's attempt to escape from the scene of the attempted murder, a collar of clothing fell off his body and was found. The results of scientific tests of the suspect's genetic material are awaited to determine whether it is identified with that of the perpetrator.
The results of a forensic examination of the suspect's mobile phone and the results of the ballistics test on the pistol found in the suspect's home are also awaited.
Authorities are searching for the firearm used by the perpetrator.
According to the Police, the suspect is not talking or cooperating with the authorities. He had not been of concern to the Police in the past.
