"Parliament, continuing the dangerous unbridled populism, rejected the impeachments risking the credibility of the country and the economy", says the Minister of Finance Constantinos Petridis in a post on Twitter after the Parliament's decision to reject the impeachments of the President of the Republic.

"Reaction from the European Commission to the decisions of the parliament. We had warned, while the letter was placed before the body. Nevertheless, the Parliament, continuing the dangerous unrestrained populism, rejected the impeachments risking the credibility of the country and the economy", the Minister of Finance points out in his post.

It is recalled that the Parliament rejected on Tuesday in its extraordinary session the impeachments of the President of the Republic concerning the proposal to abolish double taxation on fuel, the proposal to abolish the VAT on pollutants in the price of electricity and the law on the suspension of sales for three months.

For the first proposal, 12 MPs present were in favor of acceptance and 27 were against and there were no abstentions.

For the second proposal, 12 MPs were also in favor of acceptance, against 27 and there was no abstention, and for the law on divestitures, 12 were in favor of impeachment, against 28 and there was no abstention.

With the new development, the President of the Republic now has the right to seek an opinion from the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of laws or their provisions. Until the decision is issued, the laws do not apply.
