The District Court of Larnaca today issued a six-day detention order against three persons aged 41, 48 and 54, to facilitate the Police's investigations regarding a case involving conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary of buildings, specifically warehouses, theft of generators, construction and other materials and embezzlement, crimes allegedly committed from August 2023 until 20/10/24 on a Cyprus-wide scale.

As the Assistant Police Director of Larnaca, Haris Hatzigiasemi, reported to KYPE, "after evaluating and utilizing information received from the TAE of Nicosia, searches were carried out yesterday, Thursday, October 31, in rural areas in the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta, as well as in the British Bases of Dekelia". In the operation, he said, "members of the TAE of Nicosia, Larnaca, Famagusta, the Kofinos Police Station, as well as the Police of the British Bases participated".

He added that during the investigation "4 generators, 14 metal grids were found in the province of Larnaca, in the province of Famagusta two generators and a tractor and in the territory of the British Bases of Dekelia another 14 generators. For the case, three men were arrested on the basis of court warrants and detained, one from the province of Famagusta, aged 54, and two from the province of Larnaca, aged 48 and 41.

The three men were brought before the Larnaca District Court today, which issued a detention order against them for six days.

As Mr. Hatzigiasemi explained, "there were 23 complaints about the case in Nicosia, 6 in Famagusta, 29 in Larnaca, 16 in Limassol and 4 in Paphos".

The Police, he said, "is trying to identify other such complaints that may have been made, each of the three perpetrators seems to have played their own role in the case and it certainly seems that they had a financial benefit from committing the crimes."

In response to a related question, he said that "an effort will be made to return the generators to their owners, after first identifying the stolen property based on their serial number. These are heavy-duty generators whose value may exceed 14 thousand each, while the stolen tractor is in usable condition."

He also noted that "besides the generators and the tractor, the rest of the stolen materials are fences, photovoltaic panels and other building materials. After the stolen property is located, it will be counted, photographed and published in order to identify their owners" he concluded.

TAE Larnaca continues the exams.
