With the testimony of the chief constable, who transported the bone slabs to Greece and not with the testimony of the medical examiner Panikos Stavrianos, the death investigation continued on Monday into the circumstances of the death of the 26-year-old national guard Thanasis Nikolaou.

The deposition of the testimony of the medical examiner Stavrianou, who attended the court in the morning, was postponed for December 20 and 22, as one of the two lawyers of the family was absent due to illness and on the other hand, the other lawyer of the family requested as, according the testimony of Stavrianou, a specific medical examiner from Greece is present, to assist in matters related to forensic science.

Given that the lawyer from Greece, who represented the family today, does not hold a license to practice law in the Republic of Cyprus, the court adjourned for a few minutes so that another lawyer could legally and formally attend the proceedings.

This was followed by the testimony of the chief constable of the Police, who had undertaken, with the instructions of the then Assistant Chief of Operations of the Police, to transport the tiles with the hyoid bone to Greece for examination.

The family's lawyer raised the issue of a violation of the order for the transfer of the bones, which stated that upon their return they would have to be handed back to the Limassol Police Station within three days and questioned why they were kept for nine days in Nicosia before being returned.

For her part, the witness explained that the relevant reference to the decree came to her knowledge afterwards and that she had the bone slabs in her custody at the Police Headquarters and that the Assistant Chief of Operations at the time was aware of all her actions. who was in consultation with the Legal Service.

Asked about this, the witness explained that she had to go to Athens a second time, to pick up a number of tiles that remained in the possession of the coroner Emmanuel Agapitou.

Besides, the representative of the Legal Service asked the chief constable to state whether there was any intention on the part of someone to keep the tiles in her custody and if anything happened to them during this, with her replying "under no circumstances". Her answer was also negative as to whether anyone or the Legal Service knew about the decree in question.

During today's proceedings, the representative of the Legal Service stated that the medical examiner Panikos Stavrianos, who will testify on the 20th and will be cross-examined on the 22nd of December, intends to submit a written statement as well.

He also reserved to inform the court whether the medical examiner Emmanuel Agapitos will be able to attend as a witness. The request for Mr. Agapitos to also testify as a witness, the lawyer of the Republic explained, arises after the rejection of the request for the testimony of Dr. Andreas Marneridis, who was recently invited by the Attorney General to assist in the work of the Legal Service.

The death investigation will continue next Thursday, December 14, with the testimony of the anthropologist Eleftheria Harilaou, who examined the bones of Thanasis Nikolaou, after their exhumation.
