An increase in the limit of minimum wages in the hotel industry, including those of ATA, the Council of Ministers decided at its meeting today. As the Minister of Labour, Yiannis Panagiotou, stated after the meeting, it was decided to issue a decree, according to which the increase will be made.
Mr. Panagiotou pointed out that this increase "affects too many low-wage workers in the hotel industry". Asked when these workers will start receiving increased wages, Mr. Panagiotou stated that the decree will have retroactive effect from June 2023.
In addition, the Minister stated that the Cabinet adopted a proposal to submit a bill to the House of Representatives, to regulate overdue contributions to the Social Insurance Fund, for EEE beneficiaries and public assistance recipients, so that they are exempt from civil lawsuits in relation to delays in their contributions.
Mr. Panagiotou explained that this arrangement was in force in previous years and extends until July 1, 2024.
