Renault and Nissan, as part of their broader collaboration, present a new platform called "CMF" (Common Module Family), which is expected to reduce costs by 30-40% in terms of mechanical parts per model.
The new Nissan Qashqai, which is expected to be unveiled at the end of the year, will be the first major model to be based on this platform, followed by several even from both companies.
The CMF will be developed on 5 continents and in more than 10 countries by 2020, and will be based on a wide range of models from small to large and will cover 1,6 million vehicles and 14 models annually (11 of the Renault and 3 Nissan).
The CMF platform has the capability of "hosting" and hybrid drive systems, while its development is expected to escalate over the years.
