Dutch authorities have banned the Turkish Foreign Minister's flight from landing in the Netherlands, the Dutch news agency ANP reported today.

Turkish television channels CNN Turk and NTV reported that the Netherlands had revoked permission given to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu to fly to Rotterdam today after being barred from speaking at a Turkish rally there.

Rotterdam authorities banned Tsavusoglu from speaking in a city rally in support of President Tayyip Erdogan's campaign to extend his powers, which will be put to a referendum in April. Tsavousoglu had said he would go to Rotterdam anyway.

CNN Turk reported that Tsavousoglou's plane was not allowed to fly. NTV reported that he was not given a landing permit.

Yesterday, the Dutch government announced that it would not officially welcome Tsavousoglu to the country if he came to ask for the vote of Turks living in the Netherlands for Erdogan's referendum.

Foreign Minister Bert Kenters called the Turkish Foreign Minister to tell him that his visit was not desirable and that he would not receive an official reception if he nevertheless decided to come.

"He can come and visit the Mauritshuis Museum or see the tulips, if there are any," said Prime Minister Mark Rutte, adding that "we just do not want to organize rallies."

What does the Dutch government say?

The Dutch government has decided to ban the flight of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu, who had planned to travel to the Netherlands today for a rally in support of strengthening the powers of the Turkish president.

"Turkish authorities have publicly threatened sanctions. "This makes it impossible to find a logical solution," the government said in a statement. "That is why the Netherlands announced that it is revoking the landing rights" of the Turkish minister's plane.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on his official Facebook page that Turkey had disrupted talks that would have allowed Tsavousoglu to enter the country, calling for a mass public rally.

The Turkish threat of sanctions if Tsavousoglu was not allowed to enter "made a logical solution impossible," Mark Rutte said.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan today called the Netherlands "Nazi remnants, fascists" after the Dutch government revoked permission for the Turkish Foreign Minister's plane to land in the country.
