The work of the 24th Pancyprian Volunteer Conference was completed, which was hosted by the Municipality of Sotiras and was organized at the Municipal Theater of the Municipality on Saturday, May 23rd. The conference was organized by the Pancyprian Volunteering Coordinating Council and the Famagusta District Volunteering Coordinating Council.
The conference was addressed by the President of the District Coordinating Council of Volunteering of Famagusta Mr. Konstantinos Hatzianastasis, the President of the Pancyprian Coordinating Council of Volunteering Mr. Stavros Olympios, Commissioner of Volunteering and NGOs Mr. Giannis Giannakos G.

Zeta Aimilianidou: the Ministry of Labor will actively support the social work of the volunteers.
The assurance that the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance, recognizing the volunteers "will continue to stand by and actively support the social work they perform", was given today by the competent Minister Zeta Aimilianidou, in her greeting at the conference.
In the greeting of the Minister read by the Famagusta District Welfare Officer Lydia Koutsidou, he said that "the Ministry of Labor has continued and will continue to provide state aid for financial support of programs falling within the field of social care. In 2014, 261 programs operated by 166 bodies, Non-Governmental Organizations and Local Authorities, received a total state aid of € 6.425.000 ".
He added that "these programs provided solutions to the care of the elderly, the employment of children by providing employment opportunities for their parents, provided housing for people with disabilities, hosted unaccompanied minors and protected families in cases of violence."
The aim of the Ministry of Labor, he continued "is the implementation of a holistic reform providing, on the one hand, measures for integration into the labor market and, on the other hand, policy measures to ensure income adequacy, strengthening the necessary services (such as child and elderly care services ) aiming at a decent standard of living for citizens ".
He added that "the overall reform of the social welfare policy is one of the pre-election commitments of the President. The government has implemented changes since 2014, passed Legislations and Regulations aimed at reforming the welfare and social solidarity system, "he said, noting that the aim is to" ensure that each individual / family has a minimum decent standard of living based on income criteria. property, family composition and any specialized needs ".
After saying that "the role and contribution" of volunteers "becomes doubly important and deserves special mention because of the conditions we are going through in recent years as a state", he noted that "volunteering was and is a pioneer in the fight for a better tomorrow."
The voluntary offer stated "it does not come from obligation or coercion, but is based on the inner, conscious sense that the person has to offer. This is the driving force of volunteerism, the altruistic will to offer to improve the living conditions of our fellow human beings and, consequently, the rise of the living standard of our place ".
