These are the 11 DIKO parliamentary candidates for the Famagusta district

The Democratic Party announced today its eleven candidacies for the parliamentary elections in the Famagusta district.

The ballot will be flanked by current MPs who are running for a new term, as well as new faces with "rich" resumes.

The 11 candidates:

  • ANDREOU LENOS – Municipal Councilor of Dromolaxia
  • GEORGIOU VASILEIOS (VASOS) – Member of the Central Committee of DIKO
  • GIAKOUMI MICHALIS – Member of Parliament for Famagusta
  • EFTHYMIOU STAVROS – Human Resources Management Professional
  • KARAGIORGIS GIANNIS – Civil Servant Immigration Department
  • KOULIAS ZACHARIAS – Member of Parliament for Famagusta
  • MATTHEW MARINOS – Organic Horticultural Technician
  • PELAGIA SOLIA – Aristindi Candidate
  • PIERI ADAMANDIA – Insurance Representative
  • SENEKKIS CHRISTOS – Member of Parliament for Famagusta
  • CHARALAMBOUS VASSOS – Community Leader of St. Luke's Famagusta

ANDREOU LENOS

Lenos Andreou, born in Dromolaxia, has a long and stable professional career in the sensitive and demanding industry of aviation ground services, combining field experience with organizational and administrative skills. Since 2001, he has been working as a private employee at Larnaca International Airport, completing 23 years of continuous service, focusing on passenger service, cooperation with international airlines and the management of high-responsibility operational processes.

At the same time, since 2024 he has been serving as a Municipal Councilor in the Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneos, representing the Dromolaxia Municipal District and participating substantially in decision-making concerning local development, the environment, culture and the smooth functioning of the Municipality. He is a member of the Green Committee, the Management Committee and the Culture Committee, contributing to the formulation of policies that enhance the quality of life, the efficiency of municipal services and the transparency in the management of municipal resources, with the citizen at the center.

He is a graduate of Archbishop Makarios III Lyceum of Larnaca. He is Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Christina A. Apostolou Foundation, which was established in memory of his mother. The Foundation aims to support children and young people with chronic illnesses as well as charitable works, which focus on children.

GEORGIOU VASILEIOS

He was born in Nicosia in 1962. He studied Economics at the private Lambrakis School. He served his military service in the Military Police and was a founding member of the Military Police Alumni Association.

He has been working at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus as a technician since 1993. He is a member of the General Council of the EPOPAI union, as well as an organizer of the District Committee of Employees at the EAC.

He was a former football coach. He was also a former volleyball referee and a former member of the Volleyball Referees Board of Directors. He currently serves as the referees' representative on the Refereeing Committee of the Hellenic Football Federation.

He is a member of the Central Committee of the Famagusta - Nicosia Democratic Party, as well as a member of the Famagusta District Committee in Nicosia.

He is married and the father of three children.

GIAKOUMI MICHALIS

He was born in Larnaca in 1986 and is a third generation refugee from the Municipality of Famagusta. He is originally from Famagusta (Avgorou and occupied Gypsou and Gastria). He graduated from the American Academy of Larnaca and served in the National Guard as a Non-Commissioned Officer.

He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, a Masters in European Politics also from the University of Surrey, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Cyprus Institute of Marketing (CIM), where he studied on a scholarship. He also holds a Masters in Real Estate Development (MA) from the American University of Cyprus and is a registered Real Estate Consultant with the Cyprus Estate Agents Registration Board.

He has a rich history of Political and Social Action as:

Vice President of the student faction "Renaissance" of the United Kingdom.
President of the National Cypriot Students' Union (E.F.E.K.) of the United Kingdom.
Secretary of Finance and then Secretary of International Relations of the Cyprus Youth Council.
President of the JCI Larnaca Youth Chamber.
Secretary General of the Larnaca Municipality Youth Council.
President of the Alumni Committee of the American Academy of Larnaca
Member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Larnaca
Vice-President and President of the Youth of the Democratic Party (NE.DI.K.) of Larnaca.

Member of the Executive Office of the Democratic Party (DI.KO).
Member of the Central Committee of DI.KO.
Member of the General Assembly of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities.
Larnaca Municipal Councilor (2016-2021).
⁠Assistant Chairman of the Larnaca Town Planning Committee.
Acting Chairman of the Entrepreneurship Development Committee of the Municipality of Larnaca.

Professional career:

House of Representatives, Parliamentary Associate

Advisor, Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry.
Advisor, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works with the field of action of Public Transport in the Republic of Cyprus, where he also served as Secretary of the Transport Advisory Authority.
Advisor, Presidential Office and Presidency of the Republic, with field of action humanitarian issues of trapped and missing persons.
International Oil Company HALLIBURTON, where, among other things, he worked on ENI's SAIPEM 10000 platform, during the second natural gas extraction in the "Onasagoras" offshore plot in the Cypriot EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone).
⁠Approvals Auditor, International Certification Awarding Organization OPITO, based in Cyprus and responsible for Europe and Africa. (Area of ​​action: Safety and Health of workers on offshore Natural Gas platforms).
Since 2021, he has been a Member of Parliament for the Famagusta constituency with intense parliamentary activity as a Member of the Parliamentary Committees:

⁠Transport, Communications and Works,
Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
He is an Alternate Member of the Delegation of the Parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In 2025, he was elected Vice-President of the Network of Young Parliamentarians, of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

He is married to lawyer Silia Kourouzidou, with whom they have a daughter.

EFTHYMIOU STAVROS

Stavros Efthymiou resides in Vrysoulles and is a Human Resources Management professional with experience in demanding business environments, with an emphasis on staffing, organization and effective personnel management. He has held HR Manager roles in the hospitality/tourism sector.

At the same time, he has expertise in costing positions in collaboration with management, in drafting and promoting contracts to financial departments and in managing labor issues, aiming at compliance and maintaining a positive work climate. He is a graduate of Business Administration with a specialization in HR and holds an MBA (MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION) from BRISTOL UNIVERSITY.

KARAGIORGIS GIANNIS

Yiannis Karagiorgis was born in 1990 in the Larnaca District. He is a graduate of Vergina High School in Larnaca and holds a degree in Law.

He holds a Master's degree in Law and is a PhD candidate in Law at the School of Law of the European University Cyprus. He worked in the field of Energy as a Research Associate at the Interdisciplinary Center for Energy Research of the European University Cyprus.

He works as an Asylum Officer in the Asylum Service of the Deputy Ministry for Migration and International Protection, coordinating the Legal Department of the Asylum Service. At the same time, he represents the Republic in international and European forums on migration and asylum, as well as representing the Deputy Ministry for Migration and International Protection, as a member of the international relations unit of the Deputy Ministry in meetings of the European Council and Parliament in the context of the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum.

He holds the position of Lecturer specializing in labor law in private higher education schools in Cyprus and is active as a research associate in higher education institutions.

KOULIAS ZACHARIAS

Zacharias Chr. Koulias was born on December 7, 1950 in Rizokarpaso, Famagusta District, to a farming family. He served his military service during the period 1970–1972 and was re-enlisted in 1974, during the Turkish invasion, as a reservist of the 376th Infantry Battalion.

He studied Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and has been practicing as a combat lawyer since 1983. At the same time, he served as a volunteer National Guard from 1993 to 1999, when he was elected Member of Parliament and surrendered his weapons.

He is married and the father of two children.

Political and Parliamentary Action

In 1985 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party (DIKO), as well as a member of the party's Executive Bureau. During the period 1994–1999 he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority.

He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Party in August 1999 and has been re-elected continuously for five consecutive parliamentary terms from 2001 to the present.

During his parliamentary career, he has submitted numerous legislative proposals. He was the rapporteur and initiator of the establishment of the institution of Parliamentary Associates of the House of Representatives, which was established and has been operating since 2001.

Parliamentary Positions and Committees

As a Member of Parliament he served:

Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget

Vice-Chairman and later Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Works

Member of the Parliamentary Committees on Health, Legal Affairs, Audit and Agriculture.

From 2016 to the present, he is the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Monitoring Development Plans and Public Expenditure Control.

She participated in the four-member Parliamentary Committee on the Cyprus File during the period 2006–2011, presenting her work to Cypriot and Greek media, through interviews and television broadcasts.

He was also a member of:

He is a member of the Parliament's delegation to the Interparliamentary Conference on the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defense Policy, as well as a member of the ad hoc Committee for the study of the demographic problem.
Institutional Role

Since 2021, he has been acting President of the House of Representatives, as well as of the Republic of Cyprus when necessary, within the framework of the provisions set out in the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus.

In addition to his parliamentary work, he is distinguished for his authenticity, the consistency of words and deeds, his many years of experience and his militancy in the issue of our national problem, as well as for his intense social action, with particular sensitivity to the problems of refugees.

MATTHEW MARINOS

Marinos Mattheou was born on September 8, 1977 and lives in Avgorou. He is married, a father and an active member of the local community, with a long-standing presence in the agricultural and productive fabric of the Famagusta district.

He is a graduate of a Higher School, specializing as an Organic Horticultural Technician. His professional training was strengthened through continuous training in areas of strategic importance, such as Food Safety Management Systems (ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, BRC, IFS), the application of quality standards in the agri-food chain, First Aid at work, as well as modern "smart" farming practices. He also has a certified insurance training.

His professional career is characterized by multi-level experience in the primary sector, in the administration of production units and in financial management. He served as Production Manager in an agri-food sector unit, with responsibility for the coordination of the production process, quality control and the implementation of international food safety standards. Previously, he worked as a producer, gaining substantial knowledge of the challenges faced by the agricultural world and the needs of the local economy.

At the same time, he has experience in the hospitality and catering sector in an administrative position, as well as in the financial and accounting sector, which has given him organizational competence, management skills and a comprehensive understanding of business operations.

He is a man of production and responsibility. With knowledge of the real economy and a deep understanding of rural issues, he seeks to actively contribute to the formulation of policies that enhance rural development, support sustainable entrepreneurship and create meaningful prospects for the new generation.

PELAGIA SOLE (ARISTINDIN)

Solia Pelagia was born on 11/9/1990 and grew up in Paralimni. Her father is Antonis Pelagias and her mother is Maria Christoforou.

She is the granddaughter of the late Pelagia Kyriakous and, through the cultural and social projects of her province and the whole of Cyprus, she tries to continue what she always taught and advised her: to love her neighbor as herself.

He is a refugee from Agios Loukas in Varosha and from Kontea. He studied Physical Education and Sports Science with a specialization in Football. He works for the company M.E. Famagusta Buses. (OSEA)

She is a candidate for Famagusta MP because her province deserves more — and it's time for her to vigorously claim it.

It does not compromise with stagnation, nor with the same promises without results.

Famagusta needs a strong voice, concrete solutions and political courage. It is committed to fighting for planned development, support for young people and families, strengthening the local economy and real social protection. With transparency, accountability and determination.

PIERRE ADAMANDIA

Adamantia Pieri is a dynamic presence of the new generation of the Famagusta District, with substantial professional experience and a modern understanding of the social and economic challenges of the time. Born and raised in Liopetri, she maintains a close relationship with the local community and direct knowledge of the needs of families, employees and small and medium-sized businesses.

Her professional career began in the hospitality and catering sector, where she assumed positions of responsibility in a high-demanding environment. Through shift management, cashier and customer service roles, she developed organizational and administrative skills, as well as the ability to function effectively under pressure. Her experience in the tourism sector allowed her to understand the importance of quality service, consistency and professional reliability.

Subsequently, she worked in the financial and insurance sector as an Insurance and Financial Consultant, providing personalized solutions to individuals and businesses. Her focus is on analyzing financial needs, designing protection strategies and formulating comprehensive financial security plans.

She holds a Business Administration Degree, which strengthens her strategic approach and her ability to connect theory with practice. She is distinguished by her responsibility, team spirit and dedication to achieving goals.

With modern thinking and practical experience, it seeks to contribute to policies that enhance economic stability, support for the new generation and the sustainable development of Famagusta, through realistic and applicable proposals.

CHRISTOS SENEKIS

Christos Senekis is a first-term MP and participates in the Parliamentary Committees:

Refugees, Trapped, Missing and Suffering
Interior
Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance
Human Rights and Equal Opportunities between Men and Women
He also participates in the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee for the Revision and Modernization of the Rules of Procedure of the House.
In the context of parliamentary diplomacy, it participates as a full member in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

CHARALAMBOUS VASSOS

Vasos Charalambous is a professional with many years of proven experience in organizational management, entrepreneurship and the financial sector. Since February 2025, he has been actively serving society as the Community Leader of Agios Loukas - Varosios, Famagusta, with an orientation towards transparency, accountability and targeted development policy at the local level.

At the same time, he is active in the insurance industry as a Certified Financial Advisor and Agency Manager, providing comprehensive insurance and investment solutions to individuals and businesses, with an emphasis on building trusting relationships, risk management and long-term financial planning. His experience in the insurance industry enables him to approach practical everyday issues with a well-founded understanding of the financial security of families and businesses.

In the business sector, he has developed and managed multiple activities. He is the CEO of iDream SMS Marketing Agency, with the focus on strategic sales and marketing planning and the provision of modern communication services. At the same time, through Varoshiotis Group, he has a strong presence in the catering and hospitality sector, with the typical example being the restaurant "Varosiotis", as well as in the events sector through Envee Exclusive Events.

With studies in Business Administration and continuous professional training, he combines leadership, strategic thinking and operational efficiency, with a clear commitment to a modern, people-centered governance that supports local development, the family and the middle class.
