The Republic of Cyprus has so far received requests from Slovakia and Portugal for the removal of their citizens through the "Home" Plan, Theodoros Gotsis, Press Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told CNA.
He added that "so far we have requests, through the "Home" Plan, from two countries, Slovakia and Portugal" for the removal of their citizens and other citizens from Middle Eastern countries, especially from Israel." "We are discussing with these two countries to see how we can help with their requests," he said.
Regarding Cypriot citizens who are in Iran, Mr. Gotsis said that "there are three citizens in Iran who are permanent residents and wish to return to Cyprus."
He also noted that "two patients who were being treated in hospitals in the country returned to Cyprus from Israel and another 10 people remain, while there are 14 accompanying people. There are also a total of 19 people who were in Israel for a short stay, either for vacation or for work, and wish to return to Cyprus," he noted.
The Foreign Ministry's press spokesman also stated that "we are working so that as soon as there is a possibility, in any way, for Cypriots who are in Israel and Iran to return to the island."
Asked about flight diversions in Cyprus due to the situation in the Middle East, Mr. Gotsis replied that "since the beginning of the crisis, a total of 32 flights have been diverted to Larnaca and Paphos airports, carrying 2.427 passengers, most of whom are returning to their countries."
