The former Minister of Defense of Turkey and current Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Hulusi Akar, made provocative statements.
In his post on X, Akar stated that "in the homeland of the Turkish Cypriots, those who dream of Easter... will live their last Easter."

At the same time, on April 2, he had argued that the existence of two sovereign and equal states on the island constitutes, in his view, an inevitable development.
The statements of the former Turkish minister bring the discussion around the Cyprus problem back to the fore, at a time when the issue remains particularly sensitive on a diplomatic and geopolitical level.
