The Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, inspected the area of occupied Mias Milia on Friday morning, at the point where the Turkish side is asking to open a new crossing point. In the inspection, he was accompanied by the "mayor" of occupied Nicosia, Mehmet Harmanci, the president of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, Turgai Deniz, as well as other executives.
According to the Press and Information Office, the online "Guidem Cyprus" writes today that Ersin Tatar stated that the issue of crossing points has also been discussed in New York, and although the Turkish Cypriot side approached the issue positively - as it claimed - it did not happen agreement can be reached.
He also told reporters that the opening of a roadblock in the area would benefit the community, while stressing that this initiative was a response to accusations of intransigence.
For his part, Turgai Deniz argued that trade is a key factor in strengthening ties between the two communities and referred to the need to open crossing points in Nicosia. Mehmet Harmandzi stated that the "municipality" is ready to provide all support for the opening of a new crossing point in the area, as Nicosia has needed it since 2015.
