The decision of the US Biden Administration to include Cyprus in three defense programs just twenty-four hours before handing over the presidency to President-elect Donald Trump is causing reactions in Turkey.
The official Anadolu news agency, titled "Biden's directive authorizing southern Cyprus to receive military equipment from the US," as reported in the Republic of Cyprus, reports that "Biden issued a directive recognizing the ability of the Greek Cypriot administration of southern Cyprus to receive 'defense products and services' from the US under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961."
The pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak has the headline "Biden's Scandalous Decision Against Turkey: Very Dangerous Directive for Cyprus."
The opposition website Oda Tv, entitled "Weapons Directives in Southern Cyprus... A Trap for Turkey," writes that "for the Greek Cypriot administration, this development is considered an important step after the lifting of the arms embargo by the US that had been imposed until 2020."
The website of the opposition Halk TV is titled "Biden's Scandalous Decision on Cyprus."
