Early next week, the boards of directors of the educational organizations OELMEK, OLTEK and POED will make their decisions regarding the proposal sent today to the organizations through the Minister of Education, Athina Michaelidou, by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, regarding the agreement on permanent organic positions.

This was stated by the President of the POED, Myria Vassiliou, in her statements after the joint meeting of educational organizations, which took place today at the POED building in Nicosia.

M. Vassiliou: "The concerns of educational organizations were well-founded"

----------

Myria Vassiliou stated that the President of the Republic's proposal "on the one hand confirms in writing that, following the fact that there will be no supplementary budget from the Government for 2025, the agreement cannot be implemented now, as was the organization's request at the basis of the agreement."

On the other hand, he continued, "an effort is being made in this proposal to provide some solutions or to manage some issues that arose as a result of the late implementation of the agreement." This, as he said, "is also a point on which the concerns of the educational organizations were based. There was a fair chance that injustices would arise," he emphasized, adding that "we cannot say anything else, respecting the entire process."

Regarding the proposal, the President of POED explained, "at today's joint meeting, the members of the boards of directors of the 3 educational organizations were informed, a first discussion took place and in the coming days, based on the statutes of each educational organization, the collective bodies will meet to make a decision by each educational organization regarding the proposal before us. We will of course communicate any decision," she added.

Responding to a question, he said that "there are some procedures for a final decision to be made and these procedures take a few days. Early this week, each educational organization will have the decision of its board of directors," he noted.

Subsequently, Ms. Vassiliou emphasized that "the President of the Republic, despite having a busy schedule, found time and listened to us", adding that "he played an important role in the initial agreement that was reached. "The fact that a compromise proposal is coming" shows that "we are clearly convinced of the fact that the delay in implementing the agreement creates some issues, possibly even injustices", she said, underlining that "it is positive that we have a response from the Government".

"How each Board of Directors will judge, evaluate and position itself in the end is something about which we cannot say anything more today," he clarified.

D. Taliadoros: "The proposal to a certain extent redresses injustices"

For his part, the President of OELMEK, Dimitris Taliadoros, stated that "the letter we received today from the Minister of Education records the compromise proposal submitted yesterday by the President of the Republic, who realized that the Government's decision not to submit a supplementary budget would create some injustices."

"This specific proposal, to a certain extent, redresses the injustices that would arise," he pointed out, adding that "one of the basic objections of the organizations - and I think for a trade union organization it is one of the most essential demands, that injustices not be committed against its members - is removed with this specific proposal, which the President of the Republic sent in writing through the Minister of Education, as he pledged yesterday."

"The President of the Republic has responded to our main objection. Beyond that, the proposal has other aspects, which we discussed today, informed our colleagues and the Board of Directors of each organization will decide," he emphasized.

Responding to a question, Myria Vassiliou and Dimitris Taliadoros noted that what the President of the Republic said in his meeting yesterday with the 3 educational organizations is reflected "accurately" and "without evasion" in his letter.
