The Police investigation is ongoing in relation to the case of a threatening message addressed to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, Police Spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou told CNA.

Asked to report on any new developments from the ongoing investigative work, Ms. Lambrianidou said that the Cyprus Police is investigating the threat with relevant state agencies, noting that the investigation is ongoing, however, the Police cannot provide any other details.

"As the President of the Republic, who confirmed the incident, has already stated, he has complete confidence in the Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus," said Ms. Lambrianidou.

When asked if people have been called to give statements, the Police Spokesperson responded that she would not go into further details.

"Let's leave it at this stage so that we can move forward with our investigative work and the investigation of this threat," he said.

He asked for time so that the Police could proceed with the investigation.

It is recalled that on Saturday, President Christodoulides confirmed what had come to light in relation to a threatening message he received.

The information published stated that following a threatening message to the President of the Republic from an unknown person, a search was carried out at the prison in the early hours of Friday, while prison guards and a large number of members of the police force participated in the operation.

During the searches, a television and a personal notebook were seized from a cell, while a mobile phone and charger were found in toilets used by Central Prisons staff.
