The contacts of the President of the Democratic Alarm and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Mr. Averof Neophytou in Brussels have been completed. Mr. Neophytou met with the President of the European Parliament, Mrs. Roberta Metsola, the Vice-President of the European Commission and responsible for Democracy and Demography, Mrs. Dubravka Suica, with the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Mr. Stella Kyriakidou, with the European Commissioner for the Budget Mr. Johannes Hahn and with the Vice-President of the European Commission for the promotion of the European Way of Life, Mr. Margaritis Schina.

During his meetings, Mr. Neophytou had the opportunity to discuss and exchange views with European officials on all the issues that are at the center of both the European Union and Cyprus in particular. The President of the Democratic Alarm and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, stated the following after his meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Schina:

"Once again I would like to greet my friend the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas. I congratulate him for the excellent work he is doing in Europe, he makes us proud, he is a true friend of Cyprus, having one of the most difficult portfolios that has to do with the quality of life of European citizens. Dear Mr. Schina, one of the problems we face in Cyprus is irregular and illegal immigration. Cyprus can't take it anymore and we want your support in this issue which has already become our second, big national issue".

The Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Schinas, stated the following after his meeting with the President of DISY and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.

"I was happy to welcome the President of the Democratic Alarm and my good friend Averof Neofytou. It's one more time but it's definitely not the last. We will have many more opportunities to meet in the future. Indeed, today his visit finds us at a critical juncture, because we are discussing two cutting-edge issues for both Europe and Cyprus. The first is immigration where at European level we are beginning to approach the prospect of a comprehensive agreement that will bring Europe at last with a coherent immigration policy, with strong borders and very strong solidarity between states and in this context we are fully aware of the great , a particular problem that Cyprus faces. We have already signed a memorandum of cooperation and I am in daily contact with the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus to deal with the problem comprehensively. And in the flows but also in the roots of the phenomenon and from where these people start and where they pass through. The other big issue we discussed is energy. We are approaching Europe at a time analogous to vaccines. Like vaccines, Europe took the game on itself and found solutions for everyone, just like in energy we are reaching this point of agreement.

Already, as you will have seen, the prices of energy are escalating spectacularly and as a consequence of the effective and determined will of the Union to act in a coordinated manner and I am sure that this winter we will succeed. We expect from the new year to have a more secure geopolitical setting so that all things fall into line.

Welcome again friend Averof, all the best in your fight."
