Averof: Let the new President of the Republic count on our support

The President of the Democratic Alarm (DISY), Mr. Averof Neofytou, in his official statement after the final result of the 2023 Presidential Elections, stated the following:

"We have congratulated the new President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis for his success. We contacted Andreas Mavroyiannis about the fight he had fought. I will repeat what we said before the election and also today in our statements when we voted for the second round. The Democratic Alarm will be next to the new President of the Republic of Cyprus in difficult times for our country, for the handling of our national issue, the economy, social issues and immigration. You don't need to participate in the Government to behave responsibly for your country. And may the new President of the Republic of Cyprus count on the support of the Democratic Alarm for the advancement of our country. Again, our congratulations."

When asked by a journalist if the result of the elections would have been different if DISY members and high-ranking officials had not publicly expressed their position, despite the decision to vote by conscience, Mr. Neophytou replied: "I think the party's decision was a vote by conscience . There were officials, some who publicly supported the President-elect, others who publicly supported Andreas Mavroyiannis. I don't think the result would have been different."

Asked to answer what is the next day for the Democratic Alert, Mr. Neofytou stated that "we will operate strictly based on our statute" and confirmed that his candidacy for the party's presidency is a given.
