Averof: It is important to have a strong economy and a strong social state

The multi-thematic Evaluation and Intervention Center "Unique Smiles" was visited today by the President of the Democratic Alert and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Averof Neophytou, accompanied by the Secretary of Political Planning and Coordinator of the Policy Production Teams, Ms. Xenia Constantinou, the Deputy Spokesperson and Tonia Mouski and Mr. Markos Cleridis member of the Executive Office of DISY.

On behalf of the "Unique Smiles" Evaluation Center, the President Mrs. Katia Kyriakou made the following statement:

"Let me welcome you to the multidisciplinary Unique Smiles Evaluation and Intervention Center, a space created by the Pancypriot Association of Rare Genetic Diseases just last year which was also the achievement of the ultimate goal of our Association. A big thank you for coming to our place to see up close the work that is being done here and I hope that you have understood what is being done here and what our unique smiles need in order to be able to develop and be able to regain their potential".

For his part, Mr. Averof Neophytou emphasized the following:

"I am especially happy to be here with my colleagues in a unique center called "Unique Smiles". I want to congratulate you and your partners. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the all-Cypriot volunteer movement. Through voluntary initiative and work, the social state is completed.

But the state must be a helper in the extraordinary efforts of the private sector. We live in a time when problems are unfortunately multiplying and without the cooperation of voluntary organizations with the state we cannot achieve the intended goal. In 2022, despite the significant economic difficulties, our Cyprus has managed to almost completely restore the cuts to the welfare state imposed due to the economic problems in 2012, and a wide social protection network has additionally been created. I want to repeat how important it is to have a strong economy in order to have a strong social state at the same time.

Again my congratulations for the excellent work you are doing and I am sure as you give the children with a smile and also the parents with a satisfaction that there is a remarkable foundation that supports to improve the abilities of these children with these very difficult conditions. The smile is what adds value to our lives."
