The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, expressed the assessment that "the elements of the past, of Cran Montana" can be used in the dialogue on the Cyprus issue, but also that "new elements" can be added, stressing, at the same time, that this can give a greater impetus in efforts.

He also noted that he personally is in constant communication with the highest officials of the United Nations Organization, in agreement with the Cypriot government, so that in the context of the Security Council's decisions on the Bizonal Bicommunal Federation, we will have a restart of the dialogue that would lead and in the reunification of the island.

In his television interview on Thursday, Mr. Gerapetritis underlined that the inaction and inaction in the Cyprus issue, the lack of political bravery led to more extreme positions in Turkey, which speaks of a two-state solution and sovereign equality, something that is not acceptable to the Greek and Greek Cypriot sides. "Such a solution is not acceptable. And it is not acceptable, not only because it is not within our own dispositions, mainly because it is outside the framework of International Law, which is prescribed by the decisions. So we don't discuss anything like that," he said.

"We are discussing the solution which is within the framework. We are discussing a solution, which will give a new lease of life. The elements of the past, of Crans Montana possibly, will be used, but new elements will be added, we hope, which will give a greater impetus", stressed the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, Mr. Gerapetritis emphasized that it is important that today there is good communication between Greece and Turkey on fundamental issues of peace, for example, in the region and added that good Greek-Turkish relations are only positive for Cyprus. "For this reason I consider it a window of opportunity to be able to discuss more effectively. And I have a moderate optimism that the next period will be extremely critical and important for the Cyprus issue", he underlined.

The Greek Foreign Minister added that Cyprus was in a state of inactivity in the international arena and expressed the opinion that this inactivity never produces energy and a solution, it only worsens the situation. He also expressed the opinion that in the last year, with the initiative of the UN Secretary-General and the report of Mrs. Holgin, the Cyprus issue is a major priority of the United Nations Organization.

"We expect more mobility in the near future. I personally have constant communication, and I mean constant communication, with the highest officials of the United Nations Organization, in agreement with the Cypriot government, with which we are in cordial cooperation, so that within the framework of the Security Council's decisions on the Bizonal Bi-Community Federation, let's have a restart of the dialogue that would also lead to the reunification of the island", he concluded.
