With emphasis on the responsibility that comes with assuming government office, the new Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, delivered a statement on behalf of the newly appointed members of the Council of Ministers, during their confirmation ceremony before the President of the Republic, at the Presidential Palace.

The answer is this:

Your Excellency, Mr. President of the Republic of Cyprus.

On behalf of the new members of the Council of Ministers, I would first of all like to express our warmest thanks for the trust with which you have surrounded us.

The mandate you are entrusting us with today is a supreme honor but at the same time a heavy responsibility. Responsibility towards the homeland, responsibility towards the institutions of the Republic of Cyprus and above all towards the citizens who expect efficiency, consistency and accountability from the State.

However, it is also a responsibility towards your own governance program, which constitutes the social contract of the present Government with the Cypriot people. We must honor this contract and we will honor it until the end.

It constitutes an end and responsibility towards the service provided by the members of the Government who are leaving today, leaving behind important work and a valuable legacy.

We are fully aware of the challenges facing the region, as well as the specific requirements that accompany each portfolio individually. We are fully aware of the high expectations of society and of course we are fully aware of the high bar of your own expectations for the portfolios you assign to us.

Guided by the significant achievements of the current government in all sectors and the solid foundation established by our predecessors, we assume our duties today, determined to work with all our might to implement the government's work and certainly defend the public interest, always in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect with all institutions and bodies of the State.

Our only ambition and expectation, when the cycle of our presence in the high office that you have entrusted to us today is complete, is to have responded to the expectations of the citizens to the greatest extent possible and to have left a substantial, positive imprint on the place and on your governance.
