A tripartite meeting on the Cyprus issue is not expected to take place in New York before October, according to information from diplomatic sources. The same sources state that the possible final date for the tripartite will be decided after the meetings that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will have with the two leaders separately, on the sidelines of the UN Summit.
In addition, the President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, expressed his support for Antonio Guterres' efforts to find a field of understanding between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides that will lead to the resumption of negotiations, in response to a question from the Cyprus News Agency , during the press conference.
"I certainly hope for a positive result. This situation has continued as you know, for a very long time since 1974. I fully support the Secretary-General's efforts and his Good Services to put an end to this situation. The General Assembly has taken previous decisions, as you know. So maybe this time we will make substantial progress," he said.
