Cyprus is hosting today the second Cyprus-Greece Intergovernmental Summit and the Cyprus-Greece-Jordan Tripartite Summit, two summits to which the Government attaches particular importance to its foreign policy and regional cooperation.
As Government Spokesman Constantinos Letympiotis stated yesterday, the two meetings highlight the country's role as a stabilizing factor in the Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on security, cooperation and development in critical sectors, such as energy, investments and the management of regional challenges.
"The two meetings are tangible proof that Cyprus is a stabilizing factor and a reliable regional partner and together with other states in the region promotes security and cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean region," he said.
The second Intergovernmental Summit between the Governments of Cyprus and Greece will be held in the morning led by the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis and the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis and with the participation of a large number of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the two Governments. The Cypriot Ministers and Deputy Ministers will have bilateral meetings with their Greek counterparts and then it will take place the Plenary of the Synod between the delegations of the two Governments.
The Intergovernmental Summit is expected to deal with, among others, the Cyprus issue, the digital transition, cooperation in matters of work and social policy, education, health, shipping, culture and defense.
Before the meeting, President Christodoulidis and the Greek Prime Minister will attend and speak at the 2nd Business Conference organized in Nicosia with the support of the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries.
After the Intergovernmental Summit, the President of the Republic will welcome the King of Jordan to the Presidential Palace and, together with the Prime Minister of Greece, will attend the work of the fourth Trilateral Summit of the three countries in a row following the one held in Athens in July 2021 .
In this context, the President of the Republic together with the King of Jordan Abdullah II and the Prime Minister of Greece Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis will review what has been achieved so far within the framework of the countries' tripartite cooperation. The three leaders will also set new goals in various areas of common interest.
The work of the Tripartite Summit will begin with a private meeting of the three leaders followed by a working lunch of the leaders and their delegations. During their duration, the implementation of the tripartite cooperation to date in various issues that occupied the tripartite mechanism in previous Meetings will be discussed, such as, among others, the creation of the Permanent Secretariat for the coordination of the tripartite mechanisms based in Cyprus, the cooperation in firefighting issues with the creation of a regional Center based in Cyprus, as well as cooperation in education and investment issues.
Regional developments, as well as the Cyprus issue and EU-Jordan relations will be among the key issues that will concern the Summit as well as issues related to immigration, the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as issues related to the energy sector .
During the Trilateral Summit, Memoranda of Understanding are also expected to be signed between the three countries in the fields of education, water management and investments.
