Cyprus seeks to expand its diplomatic footprint, through contacts with countries with which communication is not frequent, and with the effort to always be focused on creating common elements, which will create a mutually beneficial situation, as he stated on Wednesday, in Nea York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos.
Mr. Kombos said that "a series of contacts continues during the high-level week in New York, which are based on three main parameters: Firstly, information on the Cyprus issue, secondly, promoting the candidacy of the Republic of Cyprus for the Human Rights Council and thirdly, expanding our diplomatic footprint, which is expanded through contacts with countries with which communication is not frequent and with the effort to always be focused on creating common elements that will create a mutually beneficial situation".
He added that both tripartite meetings are important. The first pointed out was between Cyprus-Greece-Egypt, while on Thursday, as he mentioned, the tripartite Cyprus-Greece-Jordan will take place.
"We continue the contacts in the context of the role we play in the region and in the context of the promotion of our candidacy to the Human Rights Council, a candidacy for which the elections are scheduled for October 9", Mr. Kombos also said.
He added that "we hope for a good result, which will allow us for the first time to participate as an elected member of the Human Rights Council, which is of particular importance and affects the global situation regarding the crucial issue of human rights for us".
"Contacts will continue in the coming days with the density and frequency that exactly the goal we have set requires", concluded the Foreign Minister.
