DIKO sent a letter to the Mayor of Famagusta, Mr. Simos Ioannou and to the Municipal Councilors regarding the bi-communal film festival in which he states that the use of the logo of the "municipality of Famagusta" together with our logo and the use of the word GAZIMAGUSA (and not Famagusta) misleadingly refers to a possible upgrade and recognition of the occupying authorities.
The letter is as follows:
We inform you that an advertising spot has been released on the internet for a film screening festival by Turkish Cypriots that, in our opinion, affect the Republic of Cyprus, the Municipal Council of Famagusta and the legitimate Mayor Mr. Simos Ioannou, since in this spot the logo of the Municipal Council is used together with the logo of the "Municipality of Famagusta".
We hope you understand that the use of the logo of the "T/k Municipality of Famagusta" together with our logo and the use of the word GAZIMAGUSA (and not Famagusta), misleadingly refers to a possible upgrade and recognition of the occupying authorities.
We remind you that as the Municipal Group of the Democrats, it had informed you of its reservations about the way the specific film screening festival will be held at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Famagusta in Deryneia and also in our occupied Famagusta, because we predicted in time, what is happening today in terms of of the occupying authorities.
It is also recalled that at the last plenary session that took place at the offices of the Municipality of Famagusta on November 7, 2024, the President of the committee for Bi-Community Issues was absent and no other member of the committee who was present informed us about this festival.
As a municipal group we consider it imperative to convene a special session of the full session of the Board of the Municipality to manage this issue.
On behalf of the Municipal Group
of the Democratic Party.
Eleftheria Komodromou, Head of the DIKO Party Group
Konstantinos Siopachas, Municipal Councillor
