In a letter to the President of DIKO Nikolas Papadopoulos, Mr. Patsalidis speaks of marginalization and contempt for elected officials by salaried associates, who, as he states, are positioned and expressed without any legitimacy as elected officials.
He also recalled the position he had expressed to the Executive Office on the need to keep unchanged the basic principle of DIKO for the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bi-zonal bi-communal federation with the right content, while expressing concern about the denial of bi-zonalism by others.
Mr. Patsalidis clarifies that he does not put himself outside the party, adding that he will continue to serve the principles and values of DIKO as an ordinary member.
It seems, he concludes, that it is the fate of DIKO, on the eve of the presidential elections, for its Vice President to resign, obviously referring to the resignation of Nikolas Papadopoulos before the 2013 elections.
DIKO rejects the reasons and allegations invoked by Christos Patsalidis, but emphasizes that it respects his personal decision to resign from the position of Vice President of the party.
In a statement, the DIKO Secretariat notes that Patsalidis' resignation was accepted, adding that the party continues the great battle of the presidential elections, united and strengthened by the large social majority around the Presidential candidate, Nikola Papadopoulos.
