The state budget is approved today by a majority

The debate on the 2023 state budget in the House of Representatives concludes tonight, which is expected to be voted on by a majority, based on the positions expressed so far by the parliamentary parties.

The debate today, the third day of the budget debate, will start at 15.00 with the speeches of the remaining MPs who did not speak on the second day of the budget debate and will continue until 18.00. The placement of the parties on the budget is scheduled for after 18.00. The parties tabled a large number of amendments that mainly concern the commitment of funds for the release of which will require the consent of the Parliament or cuts of funds.

So far, DISY, DIKO and DIPA have declared that they will vote on the state budget. AKEL has stated that it will vote against the budget.

The budget foresees revenues of 11.759,3 billion and expenses of 11.296,0 billion. The fiscal surplus amounts to €0,46 billion, i.e. 1,7% of GDP, and the primary surplus is expected to reach 3%.

Development expenditure, (projects under construction, co-financed projects, trainings, sponsorships to educational institutions, fixed assets, etc.) is expected to increase by 12% in 2023.
