Members of the Education Committee are calling on the Ministry of Education to proceed with the installation of air conditioning or a management plan, so that all students taking the national and pre-entry exams are not affected by difficult weather conditions.
DISY MP, Giorgos Karoulas, in his statements after today's session of the Education Committee in Parliament, said that they should not burden students taking the Pancyprian and pre-entry exams with more stress and intense worry. As DISY, he said, when they publicly emphasized the need to expedite the relevant procedures for the installation of air conditioners and not to make them so time-consuming, they were called naive. Today, he added, we are faced with unequal treatment of candidates as there are provinces with examination centers that have been installed with air conditioners and other provinces with examination centers that have not been installed.
"We call on the Ministry of Education to immediately proceed, as organized parents have requested, with a management plan for immediate implementation so that the factor of microclimatic conditions in the examination rooms does not play any role in the examination process," he said.
AKEL MP Christos Christofides, in his statements after the Committee, said that the graduation exams for seniors have begun, and there was a clear commitment from the Ministry of Education that at least as far as high schools and seniors are concerned, the exams would be held with air conditioning, so that the unbearable situation that existed in previous years would not exist.
He added that air conditioners have not been installed in many high schools where students took exams and this commitment has not been implemented. He said that we are a little lucky at the moment with the weather conditions, but the entrance exams are coming in June and very high temperatures are coming next week, which means that students may have to take exams again in adverse conditions.
He called on the Ministry of Education, at least in the time that remains, to make the necessary arrangements so that the remaining graduation exams, as well as the preliminary entrance exams, crucial for the children's future, can be given under appropriate climatic conditions, with the installation of air conditioners as was the commitment.
