Yesterday afternoon, he received the official invitation to convene the informal expanded meeting in Geneva from the UN Secretary-General, Ersin Tatar said, which will begin with an official dinner on March 17.
As reported in the occupied territories, after a question from the illegal Turkish Cypriot news agency, the Turkish Cypriot leader said that on March 18, the program includes bilateral meetings in the morning, followed immediately by the expanded meeting. Mr. Tatar said that the program had been confirmed before he received the official invitation.
He added that the UN Secretary-General stated that they will share the detailed program with the participants once they have clarified it.
The Turkish Cypriot leader also announced that the day after tomorrow, Friday, he will meet with the British Minister of State for Europe and North America, Stephen Doughty.
Moreover, Ersin Tatar, on the occasion of UN Security Council Resolution 186, which was issued 61 years ago like yesterday, stated that in order to achieve a just, permanent and sustainable solution, a new and formal negotiation process must begin on the basis of the affirmation of the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot "people", their sovereign equality and their equal international status, as he put it.
Meanwhile, according to the PTO, the Turkish Cypriot Press reports today that the president of the RTK, Tufan Erhiurman, stated that usually the leaders of the "parliamentary" parties are always invited to such meetings, noting that publications report that President Christodoulides will do this. "This is expected from here as well," he said.
According to Mr. Erhjurman, we are in a process on the Cyprus issue that began with the dinner in New York, continued with negotiations on the crossing points, while there were also meetings between representatives of the two leaders.
If there was no hope for the Cyprus issue, there would not be this time for a multilateral meeting, Tufan Erhürman added. “It is not possible for this multilateral meeting to be seen as a meeting of friends for give and take. However, one should not expect that the official negotiation process will start after this meeting. I see that the United Nations and the other parties want diplomacy to continue.”
He expressed his appreciation that after the meeting in Geneva, a stance in favor of continuing diplomacy will be demonstrated. "I don't think that only Mia Milia will be discussed at this table. I don't know if it will be discussed around the table, if hydrocarbons, trade routes, energy issues will be discussed outside the table, but the main issue is the equation of energy and security."
The RTK president also stated that the most important issue for Turkish Cypriots is political equality.
