A monthly subsidy to resettled students in the same way and at the same amount as provided to stranded students, the Council of Ministers decided in today's session following a proposal from the Deputy Ministry of Welfare, announced Deputy Minister Marilena Evangelou. The decision, he said, is part of the government's measures to facilitate and strengthen the stay of families in the occupied villages.
Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, Ms. Evangelou stated that the amount of the allowance for those studying in higher or higher university institutions in Cyprus amounts to 371 euros per month and for those studying in educational institutions abroad, the monthly amount amounts to 427 euros in case they do not pay tuition fees and to 644 monthly if they pay tuition.
This, said the Deputy Minister, is "another step aimed at continuing the resettlement, in the context of the government's wider efforts to keep alive, under the difficult conditions of the occupation, the occupied villages".
He recalled that last April 30, the Council of Ministers had also approved a proposal by the Deputy Ministry of Welfare for the review of the resettlement plan in the occupied areas, which concerns the provision of incentives and facilities for resettlement.
The allowance, he said, will be given to a few dozen students stating that the total number of resettled is 360 and 331 are the stranded.
