A threatening email regarding the safety of the Speaker of the Parliament and DISY leader, Annita Dimitriou, was confirmed to have been received by Democratic Alarm, Onoufrios Koullas.
Speaking on the Protoselido show, Mr. Koullas said that the email arrived at the party offices on the afternoon of June 3 and contained information about a possible assassination attempt against Ms. Dimitriou. As he said, the Speaker of the House's security guard was immediately informed, which took the necessary actions and notified the Police.
"I hope that what the email says is not true and that such a criminal act cannot occur," he said characteristically, expressing the hope that the incident does not correspond to reality.
According to Mr. Koullas, members of the Police went to the DISY offices and received the relevant information, while it is now up to the competent authorities to evaluate the content of the message, its degree of danger and the measures that may need to be taken.
At the same time, he expressed concern about the leak of the case to the public. As he stated, few and absolutely trusted individuals knew about the existence of the email, noting that the party considers it certain that the leak did not come from its own circles.
"What surprises us is how it was leaked. I hope it didn't come from the Police," he said, adding that the issue needs to be investigated.
Asked whether additional security measures have been taken for Ms. Dimitriou, Mr. Koullas stated that he has no relevant information, leaving open the possibility that the Police have taken discretionary actions without making them public.
In conclusion, he stressed that any threat of violence must be treated with due seriousness, expressing the hope that this particular message is a hoax and underlining that the competent authorities must follow the prescribed investigation protocols.
