The perception that prevailed during the informal dinner in New York is that the bilateral meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, will precede the multilateral one, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, said on Friday, expressing readiness and hope that this bilateral to take place even next week.
Asked by journalists, on the sidelines of the 12th Energy Symposium, in Nicosia, and about his contacts in Azerbaijan with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and also with the Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, President Christodoulidis stated that the Secretary General announced to him that the processes for the realization of the informal five-part Conference are progressing normally.
"He referred to the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mrs. DiCarlo, that he will visit the area to make all the relevant preparations because what matters most, if you like, is the result that will emerge", he said.
He recalled that after his return from New York he had sent a letter to the Secretary General "and we also conveyed through the negotiator here in Nicosia our readiness to hold the meeting with Mr. Tatar, we have already proceeded with the necessary preparation to discuss this specific issue and I hope, I am ready for it to take place even next week".
Noting that relations with Azerbaijan seem to be developing, the President of the Republic said that it was important that this first visit took place, within the framework of an international conference.
"However, I consider the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with his Azeri counterpart in Azerbaijan as important, a meeting which, beyond symbolism, was of particular essential importance", he said.
