The Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) condemns in the strongest terms the new illegal actions of the pseudo-state concerning reconstruction in the Varosha area, outside the closed zone, on the southern outskirts of the city. These actions, which constitute a blatant usurpation of Greek Cypriot property, flagrantly violate international law and undermine any prospect of a peaceful and sustainable resolution of the Cyprus issue.
The Chamber expresses its deepest concern about the plans of the occupation regime, which lead to further consolidation of the settlement of Famagusta and constitute a continuation of the existing situation of occupation while blatantly violating the rights of the legal owners.
The CYC reiterates once again that the return of Varosha under the administration of the United Nations based on the relevant Security Council resolutions constitutes the highest Confidence Building Measure and a non-negotiable and irrevocable position. It joins its voice with all institutions and bodies working to end illegality and calls on the political leadership of the Republic of Cyprus and the international community to take an active role, demanding the immediate suspension and reversal of any attempt to alter the status quo in the region.
