The position of Deputy President of DISY is claimed by Phaidonas Phaidonos, who, speaking to Protoselidos, explained that "from my side, a pre-election race will be held with morals and principles".

He pointed out that he is stepping down as a candidate because "at this time, DISY is undergoing a fundamental renewal. It is the largest political party in Cyprus and I believe that it will remain so in the coming years and in the next elections. Therefore, my conclusion is that if we do not change the political parties, if we do not bring into the political parties competent people, worthy, honest, clean with clean political speech and I am not referring to myself, I am speaking in general. If the political parties are not cleaned up, or to say it better, they need changes, modernization, new blood. If the political parties do not work properly in a place and we let them be discredited and mediocre people are led to key positions, then the place has no future".

He even revealed that they wrote on the internet that he is a "Turkish seed". He added that "as soon as someone heard that I would be a candidate, he started writing and uploading some videos, in which I had suggested supporting the candidacy of Mavroyiannis and because this candidacy was supported by 48% and 25% from AKEL and because they supported it the leftists, he says, who are "turks", then Phaedon is also "turks". I'm sorry, I know my mother and father too, my 12-year-old daughter who goes online can't be reading this stuff."

He continued by emphasizing that "60 days from now we will hold an election. I have political views and I want to be confronted with political arguments. It is my right what political position I had in the presidential elections".

He also stated that "48% (of Mavroyiannis) were Greek Cypriots, both right and left, because there is no 48% left in Cyprus. For Mavroyiannis to get 48%, it was not only leftists. And I personally am not a leftist."
