The Republic of Cyprus is willing to participate in a multinational formation that will be responsible for overseeing peace and security in Ukraine, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou told CNA, following yesterday's statement by the President at the summit hosted by Paris on Ukraine.
Mr. Antoniou, who is accompanying the President in Paris, told CNA that Nicosia's assistance could be at an administrative-support level, for humanitarian missions, with the participation of National Guard or Police officers.
"And of course, under no circumstances does the Republic of Cyprus intend to deploy troops," he stressed.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that during yesterday's Summit on Peace and Security in Ukraine, President Christodoulides expressed the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to assist a formation with a mandate from the United Nations Security Council, to monitor security in Ukraine following a peace agreement, following the model of the Peacekeeping Force for Lebanon, UNIFIL.
