The Turkish newspaper "Milliet" expresses concern about the concentration of American troops in Cyprus and Greece in its main article under the title "The USA is in front of me, behind me, to my right, to my left".
The newspaper writes that "while the US increased the number of its bases in Greece during the Ukraine war, it essentially settled on the Greek Cypriot side during Israel's attacks on Gaza and Lebanon... The US opened up a serious area in the Mediterranean as well as in the Aegean ».
According to the newspaper, "the increase in American bases in the Aegean and the Mediterranean is particularly noteworthy. In fact, in the context of the Greek Cypriot administration-US relations, which began with the lifting of the arms embargo during Trump's first term as President and expanded with the military cooperation agreement under President Joe Biden, the accumulation of American forces on the island continues unabated."
Milliet states that "in the satellite images published in the Greek Cypriot media, C-130 transport aircraft, CH-47 Chinook transport helicopters and Bell UH-1 helicopters at Larnaca airport, as well as V-22 transport aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing at the Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos".
The paper also cites reports in Cyprus that US military equipment was used to build the helicopter base, set up next to the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base in Mari, "an old Turkish village". It is also reported that large ships cannot dock at this port "and so the Greek Cypriots decided to expand the port".
