Work continues by the occupation forces near the dead zone in the Denia region, the head of the community, Christakis Panagiotou, told KYPE, noting that the United Nations is monitoring the situation.
Asked by the KYPE about the situation in the area after yesterday's complaints about the work of Turkish soldiers near the dead zone in the Denia area, Mr. Panagiotou said that they see that the work is continuing, specifically the digging of a large canal, about three meters deep. He noted that as they noticed the work started three days ago.
He mentioned that the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, called him and asked for information on the matter.
He also noted that the United Nations appears to be closely monitoring the area, and that a peacekeeping helicopter passed by earlier today.
The head of the community of Denia also mentioned that he is also in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressing satisfaction for the interest shown by the Government and President Christodoulidis, personally, as well as the United Nations.
According to Mr. Panagiotou, the residents of the community are now used to such moves and are not afraid, but appreciate the interest shown by the Government.
The press representative of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Alim Siddique, interviewed by KYPE, said that there is no change since yesterday and that they are closely monitoring the area to prevent any tensions.
Two independent criminal investigators are appointed by the Ministry, according to an announcement by President Christodoulidis himself.
