Government Spokesperson: The humanitarian corridor is a one-way street

The planning of the humanitarian corridor from the beginning envisaged and foresees a one-way maritime corridor for the provision of humanitarian aid, with the final destination being the civilian population of Gaza, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letympiotis said on Friday at KYPE. A visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority to Cyprus is imminent, he added.

Called by the KYPE to comment on reports of concern on the part of Palestinian officials regarding the transfer of residents from the Gaza Strip through the ships that will carry the humanitarian aid, Mr. Letymiotis noted that from the first moment of development of the plan both the President of the Republic as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held meetings with members of the leadership of the Palestinian Authority where they presented the initiative. He also recalled the visit made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, last October to Ramallah, "precisely to discuss the situation in the region, as well as the initiative, which also takes into account the concerns of the Palestinian Authority".

The design of the humanitarian corridor, he noted, from the beginning envisioned and envisions a one-way sea corridor for the delivery of humanitarian aid, with the final destination being the civilian population of Gaza.

Besides, as Mr. Letymiotis mentioned, a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority to Cyprus is imminent, noting that a date has not yet been set.
