Famagusta MP for DIPA - Cooperation of Democratic Forces, Michalis Giakoumis, expresses his satisfaction with the decision of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry to extend the validity of the Electricity Generation Plan from RES for own consumption (net metering) until the end of 2025.
This development comes in response to a relevant letter sent by Mr. Giakoumis on June 26, 2025 to the Minister of Energy, George Papanastasiou, requesting the extension of the Plan until December 31, 2025, in order to give sufficient time to citizens and businesses to submit applications and complete installations.
In his letter, the MP had pointed out:
• the high interest of citizens and businesses in installing photovoltaics,
• delays in approvals and technical inspections due to increased workload,
• the risk of creating insecurity in the market and uncertainty among investors in the event of a sudden termination of the Plan.
In his statement, Mr. Giakoumis emphasized: "The extension of net metering is a significant victory for citizens. Although our position was clearly in favor of the extension until the end of the year, I consider it particularly positive that the Ministry listened to our concerns and position and provided a substantive solution. We are actively supporting citizens and small and medium-sized businesses to reduce their energy costs and actively participate in the green transition of our country."
The MP emphasized that he will continue to closely monitor the issue until the final transition to the Competitive Electricity Market, in order to ensure that there will be no gaps or injustices to the detriment of consumers.
