The new technologies "undoubtedly support our educational system" said the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michailidou, who visited the Center of Excellence "Koios" of the University of Cyprus.
Therefore, said Mrs. Michailidou, according to the University's announcement, the cooperation of the Ministry of Education with the "Koios" Center of Excellence continues, providing solutions to the problems we face.
The Minister of Education thanked the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Tasos Christofidis, and the members of the academic and research staff of "Koios" for the invitation and the information she received.
As stated, the purpose of the meeting was the presentation of the School Network Planning (SNP) System, which was developed through the cooperation of "Koios" and the Ministry of Education during the period 2022-2024.
The SNP was presented by the Associate Professor of "Koios", Stelios Timotheu, saying that it is an integrated geoinformatics platform that has been developed for the strategic planning and management of the school network.
As Mr. Timotheu said, the SNP System includes a number of specialized tools that allow the input, management, analysis and export of data on the distribution of students in educational districts
He added that it also provides tools to forecast the number of students in discrete geographic areas over a five-year period based on historical data.
Afterwards, a demonstration of the system was carried out by the project manager Andreas Georgiou, Research Engineer II at "Koios", who showed the user-friendly graphical interface of the system, as well as the individual specialized tools as developed for the needs of the Ministry .
The Minister's visit began with a short presentation by the Interim Director of "Koios", Professor Christos Panagiotou, about the research and innovation actions carried out at the Center in matters of intelligent systems and networks, about the research and training opportunities it offers to researchers and to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as for research synergies with various public organizations, through its innovation hub.
