The contacts between the President of the Parliament and the President of the Democratic Alarm, Mr. Annita Dimitriou, in Brussels have been completed.

Mrs. Dimitriou met with the President of the European People's Party, Mr. Manfrend Weber, the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the President of the European Parliament, Mrs. Roberta Metsola, the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Mr. Stella Kyriakidou, with the European Commissioner for the Budget, Mr. Johannes Hahn, with the President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Mr. David McAllister, with the Secretary General of the European People's Party group, Mr. Simon Busuttil and with the Vice-President of the European Commission for the promotion of the European Way of Life, Mr. Margaritis Schina.

Mrs. Dimitriou, both at a bilateral level during her meetings as well as participating in the European People's Party Leaders' Summit, had the opportunity to discuss and exchange views with European officials on all the issues that are at the center of attention for the European Union , such as the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, economic challenges and competitiveness issues as well as of course the Cyprus and immigration issues. The President of the Democratic Alarm, after her meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Schina, stated the following:

"Today we had the pleasure of meeting here in Brussels in my new capacity the Commissioner, the dear friend of Cyprus, whom I thanked warmly for the constant support he has shown all this time. We have seen the issues that concern his own portfolio and in particular the issue of immigration. A subject for which he himself has visited Cyprus several times, has shown particular interest, and it is precisely now that there needs to be a more direct and substantial involvement of the EU to see exactly how the subject is handled. I am sure that we will have an excellent cooperation, a two-way communication and of course we will coordinate for the most essential steps that must be taken with his own guidance and of course our own support. And at the same time we also saw other issues that concern Europe at the moment, the challenges that we have to manage together and all the issues of course that concern Cyprus and Greece in particular".

For his part, Mr. Schinas stated the following:

"I was happy to welcome to the headquarters of the European Commission my friend the President of the House of Representatives and in her new capacity for the first time, the President of the Democratic Alert. Her coming to Brussels with her new capacity gives her an additional prestige, beyond her institutional role she will also have a role and participation in the procedures of the EPP of which DISY is one of the historical members. In this effort we will be by her side, as friends and supporters, but I think it is very important in the current situation for the Republic of Cyprus to continue unwaveringly on this path of synthesis with Europe. Europe can and does support the Republic of Cyprus in many ways in the area of my own responsibilities, of course in immigration, public health, security, skills, culture. So we thus have a wide field of cooperation which I am sure in the coming years and with its new capacity will constitute a bridge of permanent understanding and contact. Again I welcome her and wish her every success in her new duties."
