A support package of one billion euros for Lebanon was announced on Maundy Thursday by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who is in Beirut together with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, for talks on immigration.
In her statements after the tripartite meeting with the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati and the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, Mrs. von der Leyen said that they discussed how to strengthen Lebanon, economically and politically, and how to ensure stability in the country .
Lebanon and its people can count on the EU's continued support, he said, noting that it was therefore "pleased" to announce a one-billion-euro package for Lebanon until 2027.
