The similarities between Cyprus and Estonia, despite their geographical distance, were noted on Tuesday by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, and his Estonian counterpart, Alar Karis, after their meeting at the Presidential Palace, as well as their agreement to further deepen cooperation them at all levels by exploring new areas such as investment, cyber security and shipping. In their statements after their private meeting and the extended consultations with the participation of the members of the delegations of the two countries, President Christodoulidis said that the understanding and cooperation between Cyprus and Estonia "is stronger than ever".
He also said that he looks forward to repaying the visit of the Estonian President, who arrived in Cyprus together with a business delegation, and to visit Tallinn with a Cypriot business delegation, in order to create the conditions for cooperation between the business world of the two countries.
Mr. Karis expressed his pleasure to be in Cyprus at a time when both countries are celebrating their 20th anniversary of joining the EU. "This visit underlines the depth of our partnership with Cyprus and our desire to further cultivate our friendly relations," he said.
He referred to Estonia's stance on the reunification of Cyprus, which he said "fully supports" reunification based on a bi-communal and bi-zonal federation in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. "We must all do our part to support the achievement of this goal," he said.
He also said that his country "highly appreciates" all the efforts Cyprus has made to open a humanitarian corridor to provide the much-needed additional aid by sea to Gaza.
The two Presidents also stressed the importance of continued solidarity with Ukraine.
