The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to remain committed to the UN Security Council resolutions condemning the separatist unilateral action of declaring the pseudo-state, in its statement on the black anniversary. He also states that he looks forward to the implementation of the next steps decided in New York for the resumption of negotiations.
"Today marks forty-one years since the illegal declaration of the separatist entity in our areas occupied by Turkey. This results in the continued violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as international legality, the principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the relevant Resolutions of the UN Security Council", he notes in his statement.
The Republic of Cyprus condemns the ongoing effort of Turkey and the occupying regime to promote the so-called "two-state solution", in violation of international legality and the Resolutions of the UN Security Council, it underlines.
The Ministry adds that the international community, including the European Union (EU), has made it clear that it supports efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue only within the agreed framework, on the basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as provided for in the relevant Security Council Resolutions of the UN. "In this context, we look forward to the implementation of the next steps decided in New York in October to create the conditions that will allow a return to the bank to continue negotiations," he says.
He also adds that the Cypriot Government remains firmly committed to this effort, with the aim of reuniting Cyprus and its people, in accordance with international law, the Resolutions of the UN Security Council, the Community acquis and the principles and values, on which the EU is based.
"We call on all states to remain steadfastly committed to the content of UN Security Council Resolutions 541 (1983) and 550 (1984), which unequivocally condemn secessionist and legally void unilateral action. We repeat that we will never accept the fait accompli of the occupation, nor will any attempts to legitimize the division of our homeland be accepted," it added.
Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out that "we are working for a comprehensive solution that will fulfill the expectations of all the Cypriot people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, for the liberation and reunification of our homeland, and a peaceful future of prosperity for all citizens of Cyprus within the EU ".
